During the 2008 Heritage Art series art enthusiasts showed their support for the Plein air art style and the good work of the Capistrano Valley Conservancy and the Irvine Ranch Conservancy.

In March, art lovers mingled with the art worlds finest and witnessed them in action during the Quick Draw event; and even purchased their master pieces before the paint had a chance to dry. The Quick Draw was open to the public and held at the Irvine Ranch Historical Park. Artists raced to finish paintings that were later sold to the highest bidder during a live auction. A total of $34,000 was raised at this unique art showing.

Another Heritage Art event, the Gala and Sale, was held in May at Joan Irvine Smith's Oaks Farms in San Juan Capistrano. Nearly 200 people attended the gala, which included a dinner and an opportunity to purchase breath-taking paintings inspired by the wildlands and parks on The Irvine Ranch.

Between the two events a total of $175,000 was raised. The proceeds will benefit the work of the Irvine Ranch Conservancy and the Capistrano Valley Conservancy.

This art series has been a result of the leadership and vision of Mrs. Joan Irvine Smith, a primary patron of the Plein Air art style and the great-granddaughter of James Irvine. Both events were organized by the Capistrano Valley Conservancy and the Irvine Ranch Conservancy along with OC Parks and countless volunteers.

Mrs. Smiths' vision is that the paintings created showcase the Irvine Family's legacy in defining Orange County and the forward-thinking preservation vision and stewardship of Donald Bren, Founder of the Irvine Ranch Conservancy. The art pays homage and celebrates the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. In addition, the hope is that this two-part event symbolizes the County of Orange's management of many important cultural, historic and natural resources.
